During my sudo-regular search for the latest ROM to flash my imate JasJam (aka TyTn, Dopod, Hermes), I found the ROM to end all ROM’s. In addition, I found a number of apps that I wonder now how I have managed to live wihtout.

First things first…

The ROM

I’ve used a number of ROM’s by a “cchef” called JasJammin (JJ for short). This guy is just about the best there is (sadly he seems to have retired). The ROM I installed was Black Majik (all his ROM’s are named Black). Specs are:

This ROM is very stable, super fast and lean. He has removed some of the more non-essential apps and included some real gems (though his Pimp-my-Black config app isn’t there). Screenshots can be found here.

Next comes the cool part. HTC recently released the HTC Touch with an interface and finger gestures similar to the iPhone. JJ and his team have extracted the core app from the Touch, the “TouchFlo Cube” and got it working with the JasJam. To be honest, it is a little gimmicky however still very functional.

It does yet work as designed for the Touch (finger gestures) but it works. Rather than “TouchFlo” it uses ButtonFlo. You assign the TouchFlo app to one of the hardware button (I used the Record button) and off you go. There are 1 or 2 minor glitches but it works.

Applications

Strap yourselves in folks, because I have the single greatest application for ANY Windows Mobile device ( I fear I might have overstated the whole thing).

PocketCM Contacts

This is the probably the single BEST WinMo app I have ever seen. On the surface it’s a Contacts Management application with some neat features. In fact, it has very much an iPhone look and feel about it. I really can’t do it justice here so I would suggest downloading and installing it. You won’t regret it The beauty is it’s FREE. I can’t do it justice here, and interestingly the developer couldn’t do it justice on his site either. Half a dozen screenshots that do nothing for promoting the product. This app also has a great threaded SMS app built in. Again has an iPhone feel to it.

PocketCM Keyboard

I’m thinking the dev team at PocketCM have an iPhone fetish. The good thing is that they are grabbing the best parts of the iPhone and implementing them for WinMo. This keyboard app is virtually identical to the iPhone keyboard and can be set as the default SIP (keyboard).

There are a number of useful apps that are packaged up including the new HTC Home today plugin, Adobe Flash Lite and Acrobat reader, YouTube Downloader, Task Manager and the list goes on.

I’ll update this post tomorrow with links to all the apps etc. In the meantime, here’s the ones I can remember…
